The land it bare, the grass stretching before him like an unfeeling plain of desert. Caelum remembered a time with the sky and land were full of horses and pegasi alike. Caelum was the homeland, the place where he had been born and raised. His mother had sought to etch it upon his heart, the name of the sky would also mark him.
A soft wind billowed through his thick feathers, pushing his wings upward. How he ached to ride the gusts like waves across the ocean. Unfortunately, his hooves remained stuck to the ground. The sky was his domain, but he felt unwelcome there.
Caelum snorted and trotted a couple of feet, keeping his huge wings pinned tightly to his sides. It had been a while sense he last traversed the ground as a Norm would. It felt wonderful to stretch his legs, though he'd never admit it. As good as the occasional run felt he couldn't imagine having to travel in this way permanently. How tedious. In his mind, Pegasi were especially blessed. They could travel great distances in the sky without hardly being wearied by it. The travel was most certainly faster.
His biased thoughts quickly turned as the wind shifted, pulling away from the homeland. Soon he would leave this place. It saddened him to see it so empty, he couldn't image how such a magnificent race could have been scattered!
Anger boiled throughout his veins, waking him to grander purpose. Pagasi had to be restored, they couldn't be allowed to wilt away. They were, truly, the strongest race, though they were faces a hard time.
He whinnied loudly and reared up on his great hind legs. His winds flapped behind him, keeping him balanced. The sound echoed across the plain, begging any pegasi who heard to come out of hiding. It was exhausting having to travel alone.
