~Have I found you?~
Hooves land rhythmically on the pastel pink flowers. Sweet scents lift up with the ocean breeze. Ears prick up towards the serene ocean waves. Crystal eyes scan the happy scene of the beach. Long, slender, ears flop with the motion of the mare. A smile plastered always on her pristine lips. This land was beautiful. One of the most perfect lands that she had traveled to. And Violet had traveled to many places in her short life. Leaving her home was hard, but she knew it was what she needed to do. She did not belong there, she was too different. All of the equines in that land were blessed with feathered wings. But Violet was cursed with a disease that caused her not to have been born with wings, or so she believed. This difference caused her to be left out from most of the children that she knew. She didn’t have friends, no one accepted her, and so she decided she had to leave. Her life after that changed drastically. She searched the lands for somewhere where she could be accepted. Looked for friends who could love her for her differences.
But these lands weren’t what she expected. Most of them were uninhabited, left alone much as she was. She never found any equine that could accept her for who she was. And so she continued to journey all around the lands. Her spirits were most always high; she knew that somewhere she would find a “family”. But the mare was also a subject to her emotions. She would become quite depressed on occasions, thinking of her life before now, and after. Violet could be quite weepy. These were all small reasons why the mare had not truly made any friends. She was a lot to handle, with her over emotional ways, and the fact that since she was not raised around friends she was socially awkward. But the mare still believed in herself most of the time. She was sure that she would have a good, happy, life. She just had to search harder than she was.
That was why she would not give up. Her nature would never let her do that. And that was how she ended up here. And it seemed like it was meant to be. This land was the most amazing land she had ever journeyed to. It seemed to be perfect, with the warm sun, gorgeous flowers, and pristine sand. She felt like she was supposed to be here. But there was one catch. The land seemed to be as bare as the many other lands she journeyed to. The mare chose not to dwell on this. It could just be that the other horses that were here were hiding, unsure of her presence. Or they could not be up and about at this time. It was somewhat early, the sun rising steadily in the sky. And so she decided that she would stay here for a while, not that hard of a decision, to see if any horses would find her. And so the mare slowly made her long legged way to the edge of the shore. When the waves started to lap at her hooves the mare stopped for a minute. She lifted her light head and allowed the ocean wind to twirl about her small frame. The salt scent pulled towards the mare, bringing her farther into the ocean. She moved until she was knee deep into the cool waters. The water seemed to lighten her mind and the mare was able to glance around the pristine land and smile brightly, completely happy for one of the first times in a long while.
But then the mare’s eyes were drawn to her reflection in the calm water. Her champagne coat shimmered in the bright sun, sprinkling the water with rainbows. She fit in right with the scenery, beautiful, though she would never see herself that way. But one thing seemed to draw her attention. Her bare shoulder blades twisted under her skin as she moved them. No wings were to be found, not even a hint of them. She was still as different as she was when she was born. Always to be cursed with her disease. This caused the mare to hold her head low to the water’s waves. And silent tears streamed from her light blue eyes, mixing themselves with the salty ocean. A soft sigh escaping her simple lips.
